A Poem

"Maggie"

Maggie, you don’t know me
But Maggie, I know you
I read your words, I see your heart, I recognize what I once knew
Maggie, oh Maggie, please don’t become me.

Maggie, shout that you love him
From the rooftops of this small town
Your free heart, your fearless heart, let it fly on free
Maggie, oh Maggie, please don’t become me.

I see myself in your words, my young heart in your eyes
The woman I used to be
But this heart’s been beaten and bruised, too many times
Now it can never fly free
Maggie, oh Maggie, please don’t become me.

My God, You alone can save me
Free me from this prison of lies
My soul yields to You, won’t You set this bird free?
My God, let this heart fly free.
